Drain Unblocking Questions, Answered Straight

Cost, timing and what happens on the day.

Do you charge a call-out fee for drain unblocking?

No. There is no call-out fee, so you pay for the work and not for us turning up. Quotes are free, and every charge, including waste disposal, parking and VAT, is stated clearly up front before any work starts.

Can I get a price for unblocking a drain before you come out?

For most jobs, yes. Call us and we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work. If we find something that needs more, we tell you what it is and what it costs first, and you choose whether it happens now or later.

How quickly can you get to a blocked drain near me?

We aim to be with you within 60 minutes, and we'll give you an arrival time when you call. Ring 0800 246 5850 and we will tell you when we can be with you, and what the job is likely to involve.

Will you tell me what caused the blockage?

Yes. We diagnose on site, explain the cause and recommend what needs doing. Where a camera survey is needed we recommend it and agree it with you first, and you get the footage, the photos and a written report: not just a look at a screen.

How do I know the drain is clear when you leave?

We check the drain is running clear before we leave, for example with drain dye, and we recommend a camera survey where one is needed. Every site is left cleaned, tidied and sanitised.

Is there a drain you cannot clear?

No drain we can't clear. We will not put a time on a clear before we have seen the drain, but we will tell you what the job involves once we have, and you decide what happens next.

The price first, then the cause

Blocked drains: what we find, and what you decide

With a blocked drain the first worry is usually the bill, then whether anyone can come today. So the money comes first: there is nothing to pay just for us attending, and for most jobs we can give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. Once we are with you we find the cause on site, explain it, and you decide whether we clear it now or book it in. A blockage in a single fitting is a different job from one out in the main drain, and we will tell you which yours is before suggesting anything more. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

  • You pay for the work, not for us turning up

  • Clear it today or book it in, whichever suits you

Drain unblocking: what moves the price, and when you hear it

Priced before we set off, for most jobs

We publish no rates on this page, because the number moves with what is causing the blockage, where it is and how long the work takes. Ring us, and for most jobs we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. Nothing is charged just for us attending, and the price we agree is the price you pay unless you approve extra work.

What your drain is doing, and what it usually means

The four we get rung about most. Each one has a page of its own if you want the detail.

  • A toilet bowl filled almost to the rim with murky brown water, a damp towel on the floor beside it

The toilet will not flush and the water is rising

What it actually isUsually a blockage in the toilet's own pipe, or in the first stretch of drain beyond it.

What it needsWe clear it on site and check the drain is running clear. For most jobs you hear the price before we start.

  • A kitchen sink and a utility sink side by side, both holding standing water

More than one fitting running slow at once

What it actually isWhen the sink, bath and toilet all slow together, the blockage is usually out in the shared drain rather than under any one fitting.

What it needsWe start at the chamber rather than the fitting, so the right length of pipe gets cleared the first time.

  • An open brick inspection chamber with the water level standing high and dark inside

    Water standing in the manhole

What it actually isThe drain is blocked downstream of the chamber, and waste has nowhere to go.

What it needsWe rod or jet from the chamber, then check it runs away clear before we leave.

  • A round grey outside gully grate set into a paved patio beside a rendered house wall

An outside drain smelling like sewage

What it actually isOften a partial blockage holding waste in the pipe, a dry or damaged trap, or a cracked section.

What it needsWe trace where the smell is actually coming from before quoting anything — it is not always a blockage.

Clear It, Survey It or Repair It: Who Decides Each Step

A blockage is the small decision. If the cause turns out to be bigger, this is what each next step means and who makes the call: you do, every time.

What to Know Before You Book a Drain Unblocking Service

A blocked drain is often more than the one thing you can see. A toilet that will not flush, a sink that drains slowly and a smell by the back door can all come from the same run of pipe, which is why we diagnose on site before we say what needs doing. The method depends on the drain: unblocking a shower drain is not the same job as unblocking outside drain pipes or a manhole full of water.

Unblocking liquid or a set of drain rods will sometimes shift a simple blockage at a plug hole. If it comes straight back, the cause is often further down the pipe, and that is the point to ring a drain unblocking company rather than keep trying. It is also where we may recommend a camera survey: it is charged, we only recommend it where it is needed, and we agree it with you first.

What moves the bill is the work itself: where the blockage is, how it is reached and how long the correct method takes. We would rather not guess a clearing time before we have seen the drain. What we can do is give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off for most jobs, and there is never a call-out fee.

We are members of the NADC (National Association of Drainage Contractors), our engineers are EUSR-carded, we have twenty years in drainage between us, and we are insured with public liability cover up to £1 million. Based in Ringwood, we work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, from Poole and Bournemouth to Southampton and Portsmouth.
