Pricing
What a homebuyer drain survey costs
Ring first and get the price
We do not publish prices on this site, because every property has its own drains and we would rather quote for yours than show a figure that may not fit. Call us and, for most jobs, we give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.

Answered here, so nobody has to ask when we arrive.
Will you leave a mess?
No. Every site is left cleaned, tidied and sanitised.
Will you push repairs I do not need?
We diagnose first, and we only recommend more work where we think it is necessary. If we find something, we explain it and price it first, and nothing extra happens without your say-so.
What if something gets damaged?
We are insured, with public liability cover up to £1 million.
Homebuyer drain surveys: questions we get asked
Phrased the way buyers ask them.
How much does a homebuyer drain survey cost?
We do not publish prices, but you can get one before we set off: for most jobs we give you the price, or our labour rate, when you ring. Quotes are free. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.
What do I get after a homebuyer drain survey?
You get the footage, the photos and a written report, all sent to you. We also explain anything we find on site, and we price any work before it is done.
Do I need a drain survey when buying a house?
That is your decision, and we would rather you made it with the facts. A survey shows you the state of the drains before you commit, which is what it is for. If you are unsure whether it is worth it for your property, ring us and we will talk it through: quotes are free.
What if the survey finds a problem with the drains?
We explain what it is, what it would take to put right and what that costs, before any work is agreed. You then choose whether we fix it now, book it in, or decide later. Where the drain allows, we can repair it without digging.
Will you try to sell me a repair I don't need?
We diagnose first, and we only recommend a camera survey or repair where we think it is necessary. Anything we find is explained and priced first, and nothing extra happens without your say-so.
Which areas do you cover for homebuyer drain surveys?
We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, including Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Southampton and Winchester. Ring us with the address and we will confirm we can cover it.
Before you commit
A homebuyer drain survey shows you the pipes you cannot walk round
Quotes are free, and for most jobs we can tell you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. That matters when you are buying a house: you can walk round a property before you commit, but you cannot walk round its drains, and a fault down there is a cost you would otherwise find out about after you have moved in. We put a camera down the pipes so you see their condition first. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. You get the footage, the photos and a written report, and if the camera finds a problem we explain it, price it and leave the decision with you.
- Footage, photos and a full written report, sent to you
- Anything we find is explained and priced before work is agreed
- You pay for the work, not for us turning up
The camera goes down the drainWhat you can see, and what it might mean
Signs buyers notice at a viewing, and what the camera is for.

Slow drains or gurgling at the property
What it actually isA blockage, or a fault in the pipe such as a crack, roots getting in or joints that have moved. The symptom alone will not say which.
What it needsA blockage is a clearing job. A fault in the pipe is a repair, and we price it before we do it.

A drain smell inside or outside the house
What it actually isIt can come from a blockage or from a fault in the drain, and the smell alone will not tell you which.
What it needsWe trace where it is coming from, and tell you what putting it right involves before any work starts.

Nobody can tell you the state of the drains
What it actually isNobody has looked, so nothing is known either way.
What it needsThe footage and report give you the answer. If the drains are sound, that is the end of it. If not, we price the fix first.
Not sure what you are seeing? Ring us and ask.
If the survey finds a fault: your repair options
A survey does not commit you to any repair. If the camera finds something, these are the routes we can price for you, and lining is not always the answer: where the drain calls for a dig, we will say so.
| Patch lining | Full lining (CIPP) | Dig and replace | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it repairs | One localised fault | The drain along its length | A section that needs replacing |
| Digging | None where the drain allows | None where the drain allows | Yes, the ground is opened up |
| When we would suggest it | When the fault is confined to one spot | When the drain needs repairing throughout | When lining will not suit the drain |
| Who decides | You, once we have priced it | You, once we have priced it | You, once we have priced it |

More about homebuyer drain surveys in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire
A homebuyer drain survey is a camera inspection of the drains at a property you are thinking of buying. We put a camera down the pipes and record what it finds. You then receive the footage, photos and a written report, so you have something you can read, replay and keep while you decide what to do next.
Most of a drain system is out of sight, which is why a viewing tells you so little about it. The camera shows the pipes as they are: whether there are cracks, roots getting in, joints that have moved, or a section that has collapsed. Some of what it finds will be minor. Some will need repair. We diagnose before we recommend anything, and we only recommend further work where we think it is necessary.
If the survey does show a fault, the next step is yours to choose. We explain what we have found and what it would take to put right, and we give you the price before anything is agreed. Where the drain suits it, we can repair it without digging, using patch lining or full lining (CIPP). Where it does not, excavation and pipe replacement is the alternative, and we will say which we think is right for that drain.
DC Drainage Solutions is based in Ringwood and works across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, from Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester. Our engineers are EUSR-carded, we are members of the NADC, and we carry public liability insurance up to £1 million.
