Drain Repairs: Questions We Get Asked

The questions we hear most before a repair, answered straight.

Do you charge a call-out fee for drain repairs?

No. You pay for the work, not for us turning up, and quotes are free. There are no hidden extras either: every charge is stated clearly up front, before any work starts.

Can I get a price for a drain repair before you come out?

For most jobs, yes. Call us and we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. If the repair follows a survey, we explain what we found and price it first. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.

Will you dig up my garden or drive to repair a drain?

Where the drain allows, no. Most cracked or leaking drains can be lined from the inside, with CIPP lining or patch lining. A collapsed drain may need digging, and if it does we tell you what is involved before we start, and you decide.

How do I know what is actually wrong with my drain?

We diagnose it on site and explain what we find. Where a camera survey is needed we recommend it and agree it with you first. You then get the footage, the photos and a written report, so you can see what we saw.

Do you do emergency drain repairs in Dorset?

Yes, and across Hampshire too. Ring us: we aim to be with you within 60 minutes, and we'll give you an arrival time when you call. We diagnose on site and tell you what the drain needs, and you choose whether we fix it now or book it in. The price is agreed before the work starts.

Do you carry out drain repairs in Hampshire as well as Dorset?

Yes. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, with the same terms in both: the price agreed before the work starts.

Is there a guarantee on drain repairs?

Drain lining and repair work is backed by a 25-year guarantee on qualifying repairs, and the manufacturer warranties on the products are registered by us.

The price first, then the cause

Drain repairs: what we find, and what you decide

With a damaged drain the worry is usually how much digging it means, and what that will cost. So the money comes first: there is nothing to pay just for us attending, and nothing is dug until you have agreed the price. Most repairs start with a camera survey, because the repair you need depends on what the pipe has actually done — a cracked section is a patch, a long run of damage is a lining, a collapse is an excavation. We tell you which yours is, show you why, and you decide. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

  • Sort it today or book it in, whichever suits you

Pricing

Drain repairs: what moves the price, and when you hear it

Priced before we set off, for most jobs

We publish no rates on this page, because a patch, a lining and an excavation are very different jobs and the survey decides which one yours is. Ring us, and for most jobs we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. Nothing is charged just for us attending, and the price we agree is the price you pay unless you approve extra work.

What your drain is doing, and which repair it usually needs

The four we get called out to most. Each one has a page of its own if you want the detail.

  • A shallow dished hollow in a back lawn following the line of the drain run beneath it

A sunken patch of lawn or drive over the drain run

What it actually isUsually a collapsed or broken section letting the ground wash into the pipe.

What it needsWe survey it first so you know how much has gone, then price the excavation before anything is dug.

  • An open inspection chamber with standing water, the pipe mouth visible below the surface

A drain that keeps blocking after it has been cleared

What it actually isSomething in the pipe is catching the flow — roots, a displaced joint or a cracked section.

What it needsA camera survey finds it. If the damage runs for a length of pipe, lining repairs it without digging.

  • A brick inspection chamber beside a rendered wall with the cover lifted and set to one side

A smell around a drain or manhole

What it actually isOften a cracked section or a failed joint letting waste seep out between chambers.

What it needsWe trace where it is escaping before quoting. A single damaged section is usually a patch, not a dig.

  • An old, worn and rusted cast-iron manhole cover sitting in a brick-edged recess in a garden path, before it was replaced

A cracked, broken or unsafe cover

What it actually isCovers fail with age and with weight going over them, and a broken one is a hazard rather than a drainage fault.

What it needsWe replace the cover and frame to suit what goes over it, priced before we start.

Lining, Patch or Dig: How the Repairs Compare

The survey decides, not a guess from the surface. We recommend the method that suits your drain, tell you what it involves and what it costs first, and you choose whether it happens now or is booked in. In short: line where the damage runs along the pipe, patch where it sits in one spot, dig only where the pipe has collapsed.

Drain Repair Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire: What Decides the Method

A damaged drain rarely announces itself all at once. A smell that keeps coming back, a drain that blocks again after it has been cleared, or a wet patch that has no other explanation can each point to damage in the pipe itself, and clearing it again will not cure that. This is where a camera survey earns its place: it shows where the fault is and what kind it is, so drain pipe repairs are chosen on evidence rather than a guess.

Where the drain allows, we use no dig drain repairs: CIPP lining for a run of pipe, patch lining for one damaged section. Most cracked or leaking drains can be lined from the inside, so the garden and the drive stay as they are. If a repair does mean digging, as with a collapsed drain, we say so before any work begins. Drain cover repairs, meaning damaged or unsafe manhole covers and chambers, and rat blocking sit alongside these, and lining and repair work is backed by a 25-year guarantee on qualifying repairs.

We have twenty years in drainage between us, we are members of the NADC (National Association of Drainage Contractors), our engineers are EUSR-carded, and we are insured, with public liability cover up to £1 million. If a drain has failed and cannot wait, ring us: emergency drain repairs in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire start with a call, we aim to be with you within 60 minutes. The price is agreed before we start.
