Pricing

What drain root removal costs

Ring first and ask

No two root problems are the same job: how much root there is and where it sits in the drain both change the work. So we give the price on the phone rather than print a figure that may not fit your drain. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.

The things people ask before they book

Answered here, so nobody has to ask when we arrive.

  • Will I be charged more at the end than I was told?

The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work. If we find more, we explain it and price it first.

  • Will the roots just grow back?

They can, if the pipe is still open to them. That is why we diagnose the cause, and recommend a camera survey where it is needed, agreed with you first.

  • Will you leave a mess?

Every site is left cleaned, tidied and sanitised.

Root removal questions we get asked

The questions people ask before they ring, answered straight.

How much does drain root removal cost?

Ring us and ask. Quotes are free, and for most jobs we give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.

Is there a call-out fee for root removal from drains?

No. You pay for the work, not for us turning up. Every charge, including waste disposal, parking and VAT, is stated clearly up front, before any work starts.

Will the roots grow back after you remove them?

They can, if the pipe is still open to them. We cannot promise they will not return until we have seen what let them in, so we diagnose the cause on site and recommend a camera survey where it is needed. You decide whether to go ahead.

How do I know if tree roots are in my drain?

The only way to be sure is to look. We diagnose on site and, where it is needed, recommend a camera survey and send you the footage, photos and a written report. It is priced and agreed with you before it happens.

How quickly can you get to me?

We aim to be with you within 60 minutes, and we'll give you an arrival time when you call. We will not put a time on how long the clear itself takes until we have seen the drain, and we will tell you once we have.

Do you do tree root removal near me in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire?

If the roots are in your drain, yes. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, and we cut roots out of drain pipes. Taking a tree or stump out of a garden is a different job, and not one this page covers.

What is going on

Root removal: why the blockage keeps coming back

A drain that runs slowly, gurgles or blocks again soon after it was cleared may have roots in it. Roots can get into a pipe through a crack or a displaced joint, and once they are in they tend to catch whatever else is passing. Clearing the blockage without cutting the roots out only buys time. Our drain root removal cuts the roots back out of the pipe, and we diagnose the cause on site, so you know whether it looks like a one-off or something likely to return. Based in Ringwood, we work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

What you can see, and whether roots are the cause

Symptoms people ring about, what may be behind them, and what we do about it.

  • A CCTV camera tablet showing a network of fine roots covering the wall of a drain pipe 0.5 metres in

A drain that keeps blocking after it has been cleared

What it actually isRoots left in the pipe, or a crack or displaced joint letting new ones in.

What it needsWe cut the roots out, and recommend a camera survey if it keeps happening. Priced and agreed first.

  • A close view of a CCTV tablet screen showing roots spreading around the inside of a drain pipe

Sinks, baths and toilets draining slowly

What it actually isRoots narrowing the pipe are one possible cause, but not the only one.

What it needsWe diagnose on site first. If it is roots we cut them out. If it is not, we tell you and deal with the real cause.

  • A stainless steel kitchen sink with the bowl full of water swirling around the plughole

    Gurgling or bubbling from drains

What it actually isA partly blocked pipe, and roots may be behind it.

What it needsWe find out which on site, and explain what we find before any work goes ahead.

  • An exposed clay drain pipe in a wet trench beside a house wall, with tree roots running along the pipe and into its end

Roots showing in a manhole or chamber

What it actually isThey have found a way into the run, so the pipe may be letting them in.

What it needsWe cut them back and check the pipe, with a camera survey recommended if damage is suspected.

Not sure which yours is? Ring us and describe it, and we will tell you whether it sounds like roots before we come out.

Root removal on its own, or with a camera survey?

If roots are the only thing wrong, removing them on its own is enough. If they keep coming back, or something else looks wrong, a camera survey is the better use of your money, and we will say so rather than push it.

Root removal and what happens to the drain afterwards

Roots are drawn to a drain because it carries water and, where a joint has shifted or a pipe has cracked, there is a way in. Once inside, they grow along the pipe, and anything else that passes through catches on them. That is why a drain can be cleared, work for a while, and then block again. Cutting the roots out is the first job. Understanding what let them in is the second.

That second job is where we are careful about money. A camera survey is not part of every root removal. We recommend one only where we think it is needed, we explain why, and we price it and agree it with you before it happens. You then get the footage, photos and a written report. If it shows damage, we tell you what the work is and what it costs first, and you decide whether we deal with it now or book it in.
