The Things People Ask Before They Book

Answered here, so nobody has to ask when we arrive.

  • Will high pressure jetting damage my pipes?

We use the correct method for the drain, which is why we diagnose on site before we jet. Where a pipe is already cracked or failing, jetting is not the answer and we tell you that instead.

  • Will I be charged more than we agreed?

The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work. If we find something that needs more, we tell you what it is and what it costs first.

  • Do I have to say yes on the day?

No. We find the cause on site and explain it, and you decide whether we clear it now or book it in.

Drain Jetting Questions, Answered

Phrased the way people ask them.

How much does high pressure drain jetting cost?

It depends on what is in the pipe and how far down it is. For most jobs, ring us and we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. Quotes are free, and the price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work.

Is there a call-out fee for drain jetting?

No. You pay for the work, not for us turning up. Every charge is stated clearly up front, before any work starts.

What pressure do you jet drains at?

We use a 3,000 psi jetter. That is enough to break up silt, debris and hardened fat and flush it out of the run.

Can high pressure jetting damage a drain?

Used on the wrong pipe, yes, which is why we diagnose on site first. If a pipe is already cracked, displaced or collapsed, jetting is not what it needs and we will say so and price the repair instead.

Is drain jetting the same as descaling?

No. Jetting clears what is loose in the pipe, such as silt, debris and grease. Descaling deals with deposits that have gone hard on the pipe wall, such as scale, concrete and set fat. We tell you which your drain needs, even when that means the simpler job.

How long does drain jetting take?

We will not guess before we have seen the drain. Once we have diagnosed it on site, we tell you.

High Pressure Drain Jetting, and What It Costs

For most jobs we can tell you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. Quotes are free and there is no call-out fee, so you pay for the work rather than for us turning up. That is the money side. The work itself is straightforward: a hose goes down the drain and water is driven back along the pipe at 3,000 psi, which breaks up the blockage and flushes it away. It clears silt, debris, fat, oil and grease, and it is the method most blocked drains actually need. We find the cause on site and explain it, and you decide whether we clear it now or book it in. Based in Ringwood, we work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

  • Your call: clear it now, or book it in
  • We say so when a simpler job would do

What You Can See, and What It Can Mean

We diagnose before we quote, so you are not sold more than the drain needs.

  • An open square chamber at the edge of a road, its steel cover laid on the gravel beside it, filled to the brim with dark standing water

Water is standing in the chamber and not going down

What it actually isSomething is blocking the pipe downstream, often silt, debris or fat that has built up along the run.

What it needsHigh pressure jetting, once we have diagnosed it on site.

  • A gloved hand pulling a dense mat of fine roots out of the soil around an excavated drain next to a house wall

The drain keeps blocking in the same place

What it actually isRoots can find their way in through a joint and catch everything that passes.

What it needsRoot cutting first, then a jet to flush what is left. See our root removal page.

  • An engineer in dark workwear and orange gloves lifting a wet fibrous mass of roots and debris out of an open chamber on a gravel drive

Drains are slow everywhere in the house, not just one sink

What it actually isThat usually points at the main run rather than a single waste pipe.

What it needsJetting the main run. If the cause turns out to be a damaged pipe, we tell you and price the repair separately.

Not sure which is yours? Ring us and describe what you are seeing.

Jetting, Descaling or Root Removal? The Honest Difference

These are not rivals, they are three jobs for three different causes. Jetting is the one most blocked drains need, and we will say so when the dearer work is not worth paying for.

More About High Pressure Drain Jetting

High pressure drain jetting is the ordinary way a blocked drain gets cleared. A hose is fed down the drain and water is driven back along the pipe at 3,000 psi. The force breaks up what has collected and flushes it away, and because the jet works back towards the operator it cleans the length of the run rather than punching a hole through the middle of the blockage.

It is the right tool for silt and debris, and for fat, oil and grease, which is what most domestic blockages turn out to be. It is not the right tool for everything. Where deposits have gone hard, concrete, scale or set fat, that is descaling. Where roots have got in, they are cut out first. Where the pipe itself has cracked or collapsed, no amount of jetting will fix it and we will tell you so rather than sell you a clear that lasts a fortnight.

That is why we diagnose on site before we quote the work. A description over the phone rarely tells you whether the cause is fat, silt or roots, and we would rather look than guess. For most jobs we can still give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The price we agree before we start is the price you pay, unless you approve extra work, and charges such as waste disposal, parking and VAT are stated clearly up front.
