Drain patch repair in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire: questions we get asked

Answered straight, the way we would on the phone.

How much does a drain patch repair cost?

It depends on the damage, so we give you the price before we start rather than publishing a rate. For most jobs, call us and we will give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The price we agree is the price you pay unless you approve extra work.

Will you dig up my garden to repair a cracked drain?

Most cracked or leaking drains can be lined from the inside, so nothing gets dug up. If a patch will not suit your drain, we tell you why and what the alternative is before anything is done.

Do I need a CCTV survey before a patch repair?

A camera survey is how we find exactly where the damage is, so we recommend one where it is needed. We price it and agree it with you first, and you get the footage, the photos and a written report, not just a look at a screen.

How long is a drain patch repair guaranteed for?

Our repair and lining work carries a 25-year guarantee on qualifying repairs, and we register the manufacturer warranties on the products we use.

What is the difference between a patch repair and drain lining?

A patch repairs one damaged section, while full lining covers the length of the pipe. The survey footage shows which your drain needs, and we will tell you plainly if the smaller job is the right one.

How quickly can you come out?

We aim to be with you within 60 minutes, and we'll give you an arrival time when you call. We will not guess how long a repair takes before we have seen the drain, and we will tell you once we have.

One damaged section, one repair

Drain patch repair: fixing the section that has failed

Once a survey has found damage in one place, the worry is the bill and the trench. A patch repair answers both. For most jobs we can give you the price, or our labour rate, before we set off. The patch is then fitted inside the pipe over the damaged section, so nothing gets dug up where the drain allows. The right method depends on the drain, so we look first, and if the footage shows a patch will not do, we say so and explain what will. We are based in Ringwood and work across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

  • Suits damage in one place: a crack, a displaced joint or root ingress
  • Found on camera first, with the footage and a written report sent to you
  • Priced and agreed before work starts

What you can see, and what it may mean

Symptoms people ring about, and what a patch repair does and does not fix.

  • An open square inspection chamber in a paved front drive with the cover lifted off beside it and murky standing water

A drain that keeps blocking in the same place

What it actually isA crack or displaced joint can catch paper and debris, or let roots in, so clearing the drain only works for a while.

What it needsWe clear it and, where it is needed, a camera survey shows what is behind it. If the damage is in one section, a patch repair fixes that section without digging.

  • A closed cast-iron cover on a concrete side path beside a downpipe, with wet staining, moss and water seeping around it

A smell around a drain or manhole

What it actually isIt can come from a cracked or leaking section, but not every smell is a broken pipe, so we check before recommending anything.

What it needsIf the survey does show a fault in one place, a patch repair deals with that section and nothing else.

  • A back lawn with a wet muddy channel of standing water running down it towards a closed cover, behind a brick semi

A damp or sunken patch over the drain run

What it actually isA leaking section can wash soil away from around the pipe.

What it needsThe camera locates the section. A patch can repair a single leaking section without a trench where the drain allows. A collapsed section is a different repair, and we say so.

  • A large tree whose roots have lifted and cracked a concrete path around a closed round cover, in front of brick bungalows

Slow drainage with a tree close to the drain

What it actually isRoots find their way in through small cracks and joints.

What it needsThe roots are cut back, and the opening they came through can be patched so the drain has less to give them.

Not sure which yours is? Call 0800 246 5850 and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you straight.

Patch repair, full lining or digging: which does your drain need?

The footage decides, not us. If one patch covers the damage we will not sell you more, and if it does not we will tell you plainly.

Patch repair, lining or digging: how we decide

A patch repair is the smaller of the two no-dig repairs. Where a survey shows damage in one place, such as a crack, a displaced joint or a spot where roots have got in, the patch is fitted inside the pipe over that section and the rest of the drain is left as it is. Where the damage runs along the pipe, lining the whole length is usually the better answer, and where a section has collapsed a patch will not normally hold it. Which of those your drain needs is decided by what the footage shows.

That is why we start with the diagnosis. We diagnose on site rather than guessing over the phone, and where a camera survey is needed we recommend it, price it and agree it with you first. You receive the footage, the photos and a written report, so you can see the fault for yourself. Then you choose: we fix it on site, or book it in for another day.

We are based in Ringwood and cover Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, from Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to Southampton, Winchester and Fareham. We are members of the NADC, the National Association of Drainage Contractors. Wherever the drain is, the terms are the same: a price agreed before we start. If you already know where the fault is, call us and, for most jobs, we can give you the price or our labour rate before we set off.
